The GODZone adventure race in Kaikoura is preparing to wrap up as teams continue to cross over the finish line.
One full ranked team, two unranked and two short course teams remain out on the 520 km course as evening approach’s on Day seven and all are expected to arrive over the next 12 hours in time for prize giving.
Despite the disappointment for some teams yesterday when they did not make the 1pm short course cut off, Mr Bates says the racing has been exceptionally high from the entire field.
“ Very few injuries or pull outs from the course indicate to us that we have the expedition length and the mix of disciplines about right. It is always a juggle to try and create a course where everyone is going to be challenged on some level and Kaikoura has certainly given us brilliant terrain to do that in.”
The 2014 GODZone prize giving and wrap party will be held on Saturday night (15th March) at the Kaikoura Memorial Hall and Mr Bates says there are already many questions about where the 2015 event will be held.
“ The support we have received from the township of Kaikoura has been tremendous and we know that the area has gained significant media and event coverage from hosting the adventure race.
For next year we are considering several areas across the country and all I can say is watch this space. All indications are that once we announce the location and entries open we will see the race spots fill very quickly given the feedback from this years GODZone.”
